Fun Field Trips and a Weekend with the Vawter Family

In March Zane and I got to do two fun field trips with the Charter School we belong to.  The first one was to the Kingsburg Honey Farm.  We got to look into some hives and see the bees working and learned how honey is harvested.  Zane was super excited they had bee suits for the kids.

The second field trip was to the Circle J Norris ranch, which is a nature preserve near Springville, CA.  We got to learn about the local ecosystems, catch bugs, build a bird's nest, look at aquatic life a stream and learn about the local plants and flowers.

Catching bugs, we did a test to see if more bugs lived in long grass

or short grass, it was short grass.

We got to spend a long weekend with Zac, Jen, Keanan and Kyla.  First we got to watch Keanan and Kyla do a mountain bike race.  It was fun to watch how fast the kids ride and see how their skills are improving.

They do a mass start, that's Keanan in the green sleeves

On one of the days Zac went with us and we finally made it to the Golden Gate Bridge.  Something Casey has wanted to do since we moved to California.  Zane, Casey and Zac rode their bikes all the way across the bridge and back and I walked and took pictures.

Zane was worried he would get a speeding ticket, he was going 14mph at one poing

On the way back from the bridge we stopped at Pulgas Water Temple.  It's a monument to the engineering marvel that brought the Hetch Hetchy water more than 160 miles from the Sierras to the Bay.

We spent the rest of the weekend spending time with family, riding bikes and playing at parks.

One park had a long obstacle course, the kids were racing the Dads

We also got to take a tour of Zac's work, but sadly no pictures allowed.  You can do a web search for Kodiak Robotics and learn about what he does.

And lastly you can see some more pictures from Zane's Dragon Ninja classes.
