In August, Casey's Mom, Charm came to visit for a few weeks. We were able to have a few different adventures with her during her stay with us. Our first adventure led us up the northern California coast. First stop was Point Reyes National Seashore. We did a few hikes around the area, seeing some of the Tule Elk and exploring the coast. It was sunny but very windy there.
From there Casey headed home and Zane, Grandma and I headed up the coast. We did a short hike through a Pygmy Forest. Due to the minerals and hard soils, the trees are over a hundred years old but are super short.
Then we spent the night in Fort Bragg and went to glass beach. This is an area of beach that used to be a garbage dump. Now the rocks in the beach are mixed in with sea glass(glass from trash that has worn down over time). It was fun to find all different shapes and colors.
Along the way we stopped at a few beaches to check out the rocks and play in the water.
Next we spent some time in the coastal Redwoods. Mainly in the Humbolt Redwoods State Park, Redwoods National Park and Trees of Mystery.
Trees of Mystery was a fun area of Redwoods with a sky walk through the upper sections of the trees. There were 8 suspension bridges through the trees. We also saw Paul Bunyan and Babe.
Later in the month we spent a day in Kings Canyon Sequoia National Park with Charm. First we took her to Buck Rock Fire Lookout and then hiked the Congress Trail near the General Sherman tree.
We finished the month with Hartland's Fall Festival.
Many of you might be wondering why this post is so late in coming. On Sept. 9 a wildfire was started by lightning near us. It quickly turned in to the KNP Complex fire. The next week major fire prep began all around Hartland. We received an evacuation warning on Sept. 23, in which Zane and I packed up one car and headed to my parents in Arizona. On Sept. 30 it became a mandatory evacuation. Casey joined us and we decided to head to Texas to spend some time with our very close friends, the Andersons. The fire is very close to Hartland. It has moved all along our eastern border and is also to the south of us. There are fire crews staying at Hartland for structure protection. And we get daily updates on the fire. We don't know how long we will be away from our home, but we continue to pray for God's protection for the ministry and our home. Feel free to email me if you would like more information. We are thankful that we are together and safe as a family.
